REFUGE CEREMONY

Taking refuge is about direction. It is the reasoned decision to actively use mindfulness, compassion, and wisdom to navigate life rather than relying on temporary, unstable pleasures. It is a commitment to taking personal responsibility for your own mind, actions, and spiritual growth. It is an ongoing commitment to continually let go of old, unhelpful habits and work on becoming a wiser, more compassionate person.

Taking refuge means relying on these three core aspects to guide your life and lead you toward peace:

The Buddha: Taking refuge in the Buddha means recognizing that enlightenment is possible and honoring him as the ultimate guide who showed the way to end suffering.

The Dharma: This is the act of studying, practicing, and trusting the Buddha’s teachings (the truth about reality and the path to liberation).

The Sangha: This is taking refuge in the community of spiritual friends and practitioners. It is valuing the support and wisdom of those walking the same path

MEDICINE BUDDHA

Taking a Medicine Buddha empowerment is about cleansing and awakening. It is a reasoned connection to healing inside and out. It is an ongoing decision to create the causes for well-being, and to gradually release confusion, negativity, and harmful habits.

Khenpo Lekshey will connect you to the healing deity and you will receive their blessings.

Taking empowerment from the Medicine Buddha means trusting in healing as a path. It is recognizing the possibility of transformation and receiving his compassionate intention to relieve suffering and restore balance.

The Mantra and Practice: This is the act of reciting, focusing, and practicing with sincerity. It is learning to stabilize the mind, generate devotion, and align your actions with the truth of how healing arises through intention, compassion, and wisdom.

Join and receive support from spiritual friends and practitioners. Value the inspiration, guidance, and shared dedication of those walking the path—so your efforts are strengthened, your heart opens more easily, and your practice becomes steadier.

Taking empowerment from Avalokiteshvara means trusting compassion as a path. It is recognizing the possibility of transformation and receiving his heartfelt intention to help all beings, so suffering can be met with care and relieved through loving action.

Public Talk on the Wisdom on the 37 Bodhisattvas at Canada Water Library

4th July 2026 11am to 1pm & 5th July 2026 1pm to 3pm

Tickets by donation – pay what you wish (this helps us fund events!)

Join us in person for inspiring sessions with Venerable Khenpo Lekshey, diving into the wisdom of the 37 Bodhisattvas. Whether you’re curious or seasoned in Buddhist teachings, this talk offers a fresh perspective and deep insights.

In this talk, Venerable Khenpo Lekshey introduces the meaning and purpose of the “Thirty-Seven Bodhisattvas”—a set of teachings associated with bodhisattva principles (the compassionate mind dedicated to others’ awakening). The talk is typically structured to help practitioners understand:

What a bodhisattva is (not just a concept, but a way of training the heart).

Why compassion must be paired with wisdom.

How specific attitudes and practices—like humility, patience, generosity, and perseverance—are cultivated over time.

How these trainings protect the mind from self-centeredness and conflict, and create conditions for genuine benefit to others.

They represent trained qualities of mind.

Instead of viewing “bodhisattvas” only as holy beings, the teachings emphasize that bodhisattva qualities can be developed within us through practice.
